Système Solaire - Juillet 2013

This collage bag is a one of a kind, entirely hand made work of art. I call it 'Système Solaire' because all of the antique buttons I used are inspired by our solar system. Each button represents an orbit, a star, a sun, an aster or a geometric form that we find in the universe. The bag, being reminiscent of the Renaissance, reminds me of the ancient astronomers like Copernicus, Galileo and Kepler from this time period so rich in art and discovery.
I put about a hundred hours into designing, sewing and embroidering this bag. The upper flap clearly depicts a solar system with a central sun. I have included some close up images to show some of the progression and details I so meticulously, painstakingly and patiently sewed as I do when I enter my own universe of creating one of my 'Sacs Œuvres d'Art'.
