Jardin de Paix Kimono – Autumn 2010
(Garden of Peace Kimono) This one of a kind wearable art piece I created to convey a message – a message of Peace & Hope – through the tenderness of the gentle needle arts: hand sewing, hand embroidering, hand made antique laces, collaged together with the floral patterns of new and antique fabrics and buttons to create an imagery of a blossoming garden. I sewed this work almost entirely on my grandmother’s antique sewing machine. I was continually being transported back in time, imagining my grandmother’s hands working away creating her dolls on this machine and the small hands of the women some 100 years ago in France who made the laces.
